Frequently Asked Questions
What happens after I submit the online form?
Within two business days of submitting the online form, I will be in touch to schedule a 20-minute call to discuss your project. At the end of the call, we will schedule a complimentary in-person consultation. During the consultation, we will walk through the spaces that you’d like organized and go through a list of questions for me to better understand your project. I’ll also take photos, measurements, and learn more about your goals, timing, budget, and how involved in the decluttering and organization process you’d like to be. Following the consultation, I will prepare and send a contract within three (3) business days with scope of work, cost, and a list of organizational systems that are recommended to complete your project. Once the contract is signed and in-person sessions purchased, I will identify organizational systems for your approval. Once your organizational systems are purchased and delivery dates scheduled, we will schedule your in-person sessions. Afterwards, I will complete your project during our scheduled sessions.
What is your decluttering and organizing process?
I focus on one space at a time. I start by removing as many items from the space as possible, then I sort everything into four different categories: Discard, donate, keep, and relocate. For items to be discarded, unless it’s obvious trash (e.g., expired products), I will set aside in another space for you to evaluate on your own if not present and provide recommendations for disposal, as appropriate. For items to be donated, we can discuss if you’d like to donate on your own or if you’d like me to take care of donations. For items to be kept, I will categorize them in a logical manner. If organizational systems are purchased as part of your project, I will get them assembled and installed and return your items to the space and label, as appropriate. Anything to be relocated will be set aside with a suggestion for where to relocate. If it’s a space that I previously organized or will be organizing, then I’ll make sure I find a new home for those items as well. After I’m finished, I will review the space with you to determine if there are any immediate concerns that need to be addressed. Afterwards, you have two weeks to evaluate your space and contact me for any follow up work.
Do I help with the decluttering and organizing process?
Your involvement in the decluttering and organizing process is entirely up to you. For decluttering, you can be present to help go through all your items, or I can set aside items for you to sort through on your own as homework in between sessions, or I can go through your items on my own for you to evaluate anything to be discarded. We can have different approaches for different rooms (i.e., I declutter your bathroom on my own while we declutter your closet containing sentimental items together), or we can use the same approach for all rooms. During our introductory call and complimentary in-person consultation, we will go through a list of questions to determine which approach is best for your situation. Once we get to the organizing steps, I have a similar approach, it’s entirely up to you. You can be present to weigh in on where you’d like items to go, or you can leave the magic to me.
What else is included during in-person decluttering and organizing sessions?
Call, text, and email support between in-person sessions
Light cleaning during sessions
Use of my toolkit, including basic hardware (nails, screws), label maker, trash bags, cleaning wipes, boxes, etc.
What if I don’t like how you organized my space?
I try to avoid this situation as much as possible by asking a lot of questions during the introductory call and in-person consultation, and having you decide how much you’d like to be involved in the decluttering and organizing process. I want you to love your spaces when I’m done. Once I’m done, we will walk through your spaces for any immediate changes. Afterwards, you have two weeks to live in and get back to me with any concerns. Depending on the scope of the request, I will return to complete any requested changes without purchase of another session or we may need to look at adding another 3-hour in-person session to complete the changes.
Do you travel?
In general, I will travel one hour, round-trip, for in-person sessions; however, for a big project (an entire house, for example), I will consider traveling, but the client will cover the cost of travel and accommodations as part of the contract.
